The Board of Directors for GALS will be meeting Tuesday April 21 to discuss options for the upcoming season. No final decision has been made on league schedules or policies. We are confined by the protocols and policies of the host Cities and School Districts.
March 19, 2020
The GALS Board would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented pandemic. We continue to closely monitor COVID-19 and are taking proactive measures to mitigate the potential impact of the virus. When it comes to our decision-making, our commitment is this: protect the health and safety of our athletes, their families, our volunteers, our officials, and our community.
GALS Board of Directors met with local representatives from Middleton, Emmett, and Homedale, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, after having been in communication with USA Softball and the Caldwell Mayor’s Office regarding public parks and school facilities that are used for GALS games and practices. As you are aware each new day has brought challenges and changes including a number of extraordinary announcements by our local government, so we want to share some significant updates; all of these grounded in our firm commitment to protect health and safety.
The GALS Board has been taking our directives from USA Softball in conjunction with the CDC and statewide governmental entities. We will move forward continuing to responsibly follow these directives and re-evaluations in conjunction with these officials.
In difficult times come difficult decisions. As of today, March 19, 2020 both protocols require us to participate in social distancing with no more than 10 people gathering together, at any one time, following the six-foot recommendation for 8 weeks. Effective immediately, there are to be no team practices, scrimmages, team bonding events, workouts, etc. until further notice. The City of Caldwell and USA Softball have both indicated that currently their plan is to re-evaluate their policies April 6, 2020.
As we all know this situation is fluid and we are monitoring it day by day. We are cautiously optimistic that by following these mandates and practicing social distancing we will be able to resume our season sooner rather than later. In full consideration of the unfortunate circumstances we are all dealing with, we have currently decided to POSTPONE the 8U season (scheduled to start on March 31), the 10U and 12U seasons (scheduled to start May 4), and the 14U and 16U seasons (scheduled to start on May 18) with the hope that we will still play.
The GALS Board of Directors and community representatives have unanimously agreed to work to formulate plans and hold our season as soon as deemed safe by the CDC and local governmental agencies. We will continue to actively monitor events and communicate with coaches and players alike at the appropriate time regarding these matters. We are working to ensure the safety and health of our softball community and will post updates to the GALS website and on our Facebook page as the situation changes. We encourage any parent with additional questions or concerns to reach out to your local organization.
Thank you for your patience and understanding; we can’t wait to see you all on the fields soon!
Wishing you good health,
